Converting a PDF to a Google Form can save you hours of manual copying and pasting, especially if you're dealing with quizzes, surveys, or data collection. While Google doesn’t currently offer a direct way to turn a PDF into a form, tools like Formswrite.com make the process faster and easier — even though full PDF-to-Form conversion is coming soon to the platform.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to convert your PDF content into a Google Form step-by-step, using a semi-automated workflow.

Step-by-Step: Convert PDF to Google Form

Step 1: Extract Text from the PDF Start by copying the text from your PDF. If your PDF is not selectable (e.g., it's an image), use a free OCR (Optical Character Recognition) tool like OnlineOCR or Google Drive’s OCR feature:

  1. Upload the PDF to Google Drive

  2. Right-click > "Open with" > "Google Docs"

  3. Copy the extracted text

Step 2: Structure Your Questions Open a Google Doc and organize your content as if it were a form:

  1. Separate each question with a line break

  2. Add answer choices (if any) underneath each question

  3. Label multiple-choice or short-answer types if needed

Step 3: Use Formswrite.com to Start Building Head over to Formswrite.com

  1. Paste the structured content into Formswrite’s interface

  2. Although PDF-to-Google Form conversion is still in development, you can paste your quiz or survey text from a Google Doc and let Formswrite turn it into a fully formatted Google Form

Step 4: Review and Customize in Google Forms Once your form is created through Formswrite, you’ll be redirected to your Google Form. From there:

  1. Edit question types (MCQ, dropdowns, etc.)

  2. Add descriptions, images, or sections

  3. Turn on quiz mode if applicable (Settings > Quizzes)

Step 5: Share Your Form Once complete:

  1. Click the Send button in the top right

  2. Choose to share via link, email, or embed in a website

Why Use Formswrite?

Formswrite is a free website (not a plugin) that helps automate the transformation of structured text (soon including PDFs!) into clean, professional Google Forms. It’s perfect for educators, HR teams, marketers, and anyone who works with forms regularly.
