Quizizz Is Now Wayground: Why the Name Changed and What It Means for Teachers
Quizizz changed its name to Wayground on June 24, 2025, because the company says the product had grown from a quiz tool into a broader, AI-supported learning platform. Your account, your quizzes, and your students' join links keep working, so for most teachers the change is the name and the logo, not the daily workflow.
This guide covers what happened, what stayed the same, what the free plan includes, and how to create a quiz in Wayground, including how to bring in questions you already have in a Word file, PDF, or Google Doc.

What is Wayground?
Wayground is the new name for Quizizz, the classroom platform teachers have used since 2015 for self-paced and live quizzes. Today it covers more than quizzes. Teachers can build assessments, lessons, flashcards, interactive videos, and reading passages, and they can use AI tools and accommodations to adapt those resources for different learners. You will still see "formerly Quizizz" on many Wayground pages, and plenty of teachers still call it Quizizz.
Why did Quizizz change to Wayground?
In the official announcement, the company described the move as a reflection of the platform's evolution from a quiz tool into a versatile supplemental learning platform supported by AI. CEO Ankit Gupta said teacher feedback had transformed "a simple formative assessment tool into a destination for teachers to browse, bring, or build any instructional resource."
The rebrand page on wayground.com adds a few more reasons:
- Teachers were already going way beyond quizzes. A name built around the word quiz no longer described what people did on the platform.
- The mission. The name is meant to express helping every student find their way within the common ground of the classroom. That is where "Way" and "ground" come from.
- Spelling. The page also jokes about the time people spent remembering how to spell Q-u-i-z-i-z-z.
When did Quizizz change to Wayground?
The rebrand was announced on June 24, 2025, in a press release from Santa Monica, California. The old quizizz.com address now redirects to wayground.com automatically, so bookmarks and saved links still take you to the right place.
What changed for teachers, and what stayed the same
What stayed the same
- Your login. The company says you do not have to change anything about your account and you log in the same way as before.
- Your content. Existing quizzes, lessons, classes, and reports remain available.
- How students join. Students can join at wayground.com/join, and the company says all prior methods, including joinmyquiz.com and LMS integrations, continue to work.
- Contracts and privacy. Quizizz Inc. remains the legal entity, contracts signed with Quizizz Inc. remain valid, and privacy practices did not change with the name.
What changed
- The name, logo, website domain, and social media handles.
- A set of product updates announced alongside the rebrand: curriculum alignment to standards, lesson bundles that combine activities, a flexible AI generation hub that turns files into interactive formats, expanded language and accessibility accommodations, and VoyageMath, a middle school math program.
Tell students once
If a student types joinmyquiz.com out of habit, it still works. For new classes, just put wayground.com/join and the game code on the board.
Is Wayground free?
Yes, with limits. The Wayground Starter (Basic) plan is free for teachers and needs no credit card. According to Wayground's help center, it includes basic question types such as multiple choice, fill in the blank, and poll, plus access to formats like assessments, lessons, flashcards, interactive videos, and passages. The help center also says that starting January 1, 2026, Starter accounts can store up to 20 resources in their library, so teachers who build a lot of content may want to archive old quizzes or look at a paid plan.
The paid Individual (Super) plan adds premium question types and other upgrades. Prices vary by region, so check the Wayground plans page for current pricing. Schools and districts have separate plans.
Wayground question types
Wayground supports a long list of question types. Not all of them are on the free plan, but here is how the main ones map to classroom uses:

Multiple choice questions can have up to five answer options, and you can mark more than one correct answer when needed.
How to create a quiz in Wayground
Step 1: Sign in and click Create
Log in at wayground.com with the same account you used for Quizizz. Click Create and choose Assessment, which is the quiz format.
Step 2: Add your questions
Pick a question type, type the question and answer options, and mark the correct answer. Repeat for each question. Keep stems short if you plan to run the quiz live on a projector.
Step 3: Import questions instead of typing them
If your questions already exist, use the import option in the editor. Wayground lets you import from a spreadsheet that follows its template, and its AI tools can turn worksheets and question banks into interactive assessments. You can also bring in questions from a Google Form.
Step 4: Publish
Click Publish, give the quiz a name, choose its language, and set its visibility.
Step 5: Run it live or assign it
Start a live session and share the join code, or assign it for students to complete on their own time. Which session types you can use depends on your plan.
Import a Word doc, PDF, or Google Doc into Wayground with Formswrite

Step 1: Upload your document

Check the extracted questions in the editor and fix any answer that was not detected the way you intended.

Step 4: Import into Wayground
In Wayground, open the import option, choose the spreadsheet import, and upload the file. Review the questions, then publish.
Plans
Formswrite's free plan exports to Formswrite Forms and flashcards. Exports to Wayground/Quizizz, Kahoot, Blooket, Gimkit, and Google Forms are on paid plans.
The same document can also become a Kahoot, a Blooket, or a Gimkit, which helps if your department uses more than one game platform.

Should you switch platforms because of the rebrand?
