# Quizizz AI Quiz Maker (Wayground): What It Does and Skips

In short

The Quizizz AI quiz maker lives on Wayground, the new name for Quizizz. Wayground's multiple choice question generator page says it creates questions from text only and is free to start (checked October 8, 2026). It is quick for a new topic, but it does not read your existing worksheet or PDF as a file.

## Quizizz is now Wayground

Quizizz announced on June 24, 2025 that it was rebranding as Wayground, and many guides, search results and teacher conversations still use the old name. The platform you used as Quizizz is the one now called Wayground. The full story is in [Quizizz is now Wayground](/blog/quizizz-is-now-wayground).

## What the AI generator takes as input

On its public generator page Wayground states two things worth planning around:

- Questions are generated from text only. The page says that at the moment the AI tool generates questions from text only, with image input something it may consider later.
- The tool is presented as free to use, with Generate for free buttons and a free sign up.

The page does not state a question count cap or other limits, so check what your account allows inside the product. Treat anything the generator writes as a draft.

## When AI generation is the wrong tool

- You have a test with an answer key, and changing the wording would change what you assess.
- Your source is a PDF or scanned worksheet, which is not plain text.
- You need the same questions in several platforms, such as Wayground and Kahoot.
- You need a repeatable process for dozens of files.

In these cases the job is conversion. Formswrite reads questions and correct answers from a PDF (OCR for scans), Word file, Google Doc, Excel or Google Sheet and prepares a file for Wayground/Quizizz. Exporting to Quizizz is a paid feature, and the free plan only exports Formswrite Forms.

If your source is a PDF and you still want the AI generator, copy the text of the relevant pages into the generator, ask for the number of questions you need, and then read them against the original pages. Copying a table out of a PDF often scrambles the rows, so check those first.

## Steps: import a prepared quiz into Wayground

1. Upload your document to Formswrite and review the detected questions and answers.
2. Choose Wayground/Quizizz as the export target and download the file.
3. Log in to Wayground and start a new quiz.
4. Choose the spreadsheet import option and upload the file.
5. Check the imported questions, then add images and settings in the editor.

## Compare the two routes

| | Wayground AI generator | Convert your own document |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Input | Text you type or paste | PDF, Word, Google Doc, Excel, Google Sheet |
| Questions | Written by AI | Your own, kept as written |
| Answer key | AI chooses | Taken from your file |
| Best for | New topics, quick drafts | Existing tests and worksheets |
| Review needed | Every question | Detected questions and answers |

## A realistic example

A science teacher has a 20 question chapter test in Word, with the answer key on the last page. Asking the AI generator for "chapter 5 test" would produce 20 new questions that may not match what was taught. Converting the Word file keeps all 20 of her questions, so the only review is whether each one was read correctly. A teacher with no test yet, who wants a five question warm-up on a new topic, is the better match for the AI generator.

## FAQ

Is the Quizizz AI quiz maker the same as Wayground AI?

Yes in practice. Quizizz was renamed Wayground, and the AI question generator now sits on Wayground's site.

Can Wayground AI make a quiz from a PDF?

Its public multiple choice generator page says it generates questions from text only. Copy the text out of the PDF, or convert the PDF into an importable file with a converter.

Can I import questions from a spreadsheet into Wayground?

Yes. When you create a quiz you can choose a spreadsheet import and upload a prepared file, which is how converted quizzes are brought in.

Do I need to review AI-generated questions?

Always. AI can write a wrong answer key or an ambiguous option. Read each question before students see it.
