# Make a Kahoot From Quizlet: Export, Fix and Import

In short

You can turn a Quizlet set into a kahoot, but not with one click. As of October 8, 2026, Kahoot's help center lists no Quizlet import, so the route is: export the set from Quizlet as text, turn it into quiz questions with answer options, and import that into Kahoot through its spreadsheet importer.

## Step 1: Export the set from Quizlet

Quizlet only lets you export sets that are in your own library. Blooket's help center describes the export settings that work for any text import:

1. Open Your library and choose Flashcard sets, then pick the set.
2. Click the three dots under the set name and choose Export.
3. If the set is public and not yours, first use Make a copy in the same menu to add it to your library. A set created with Plus features cannot be copied unless you also have Quizlet Plus.
4. Set Between term and definition to Tab, and Between rows to New line.
5. Select Copy text.

You now hold a block of text where each line is a term, a tab, and a definition.

## Step 2: Turn cards into questions

Decide which side is the question. For vocabulary, the definition is usually the question and the term is the answer. For a language set, it may be the other way round. Paste the text into a spreadsheet so that the term and definition land in two columns, then rearrange.

Kahoot needs more than that, so add wrong answers. A quick method that works for most sets is to use the correct answers of other cards as distractors:

- For card 1, answers are the term from cards 1, 4, 7 and 9, with the correct one in a random position.
- Write the position of the right option in the correct answer column.
- Keep the question to 120 characters and each answer to 75.

Fill Kahoot's own template, which also needs a time limit of 5, 10, 20, 30, 60 or 120 seconds per question. Every rule is in our [Kahoot spreadsheet template guide](/blog/kahoot-spreadsheet-template).

## Step 3: Import into Kahoot

1. In the Kahoot creator choose Add, Import, then Import spreadsheet.
2. Upload the .xlsx file.
3. Fix or drop any rows Kahoot flags.

## The faster way: convert the cards as a document

If building distractors by hand sounds slow, paste or save the exported cards into a Word file, Google Doc or Google Sheet and convert that. Formswrite reads questions and answers from those formats and prepares them for Kahoot, and its AI quiz generation can write plausible wrong answers from a source text. Check every generated option before class. Exporting to Kahoot is a paid feature, while the free plan only exports Formswrite Forms.

## Language and vocabulary sets

Vocabulary sets convert well because terms are short and answers are unambiguous. For foreign language sets, decide the direction deliberately: a Spanish to English question tests recognition, while English to Spanish tests recall. Build two kahoots from the same export if you want both, since you only need to swap the two columns.

## Quizlet to Kahoot or something else

| Goal | Better fit |
| --- | --- |
| Live whole-class game with a leaderboard | Kahoot |
| Students studying alone | Keep the set in Quizlet |
| Fast-paced game where the Quizlet text imports directly | Blooket, which has a Quizlet Import option |
| Self-paced quiz | Wayground (Quizizz) |

If you decide Blooket suits the set better, our [Blooket CSV template guide](/blog/blooket-csv-template) covers spreadsheet import, and [how to turn a Blooket into a Quizlet](/blog/how-to-turn-a-blooket-into-a-quizlet) covers the opposite direction. For other starting points see [how to turn your Google Sheet into a Kahoot quiz](/blog/how-to-turn-your-google-sheet-into-a-kahoot-quiz) and [convert Quizlet to Google Form](/blog/convert-quizlet-to-google-form), or read the [document to Kahoot converter page](/product/documents-to-kahoot).

## Common problems

- **No Export option.** The set is not in your library. Copy it first.
- **Long definitions.** Shorten them or swap which side is the question.
- **Duplicate terms.** If two cards share a term, the same option may appear twice. Rewrite one.

## FAQ

Does Kahoot have a Quizlet import?

Not that Kahoot's help center lists as of October 8, 2026. You export the set from Quizlet as text and bring it in through Kahoot's spreadsheet importer or a converter.

Why do I need wrong answers for a Quizlet to Kahoot import?

A Quizlet card has only a term and a definition. A kahoot question needs at least two answer options, so you add distractors, often borrowed from other cards in the same set.

Can I export a Quizlet set I did not create?

Only after you copy it into your own library with Make a copy. If it was built with Plus features, copying requires Quizlet Plus.

Can I keep Quizlet images in the kahoot?

Not through the text export or the spreadsheet importer. Add images by hand in the Kahoot creator.
