# Kahoot From PowerPoint: Slide Import vs Quiz Questions

In short

Kahoot can bring a PowerPoint deck into a kahoot, but it imports your slides as slides. If what you want is a quiz that tests what the deck taught, you need questions, and there are two ways to get them: let Kahoot's AI write questions from the imported slides, or copy your own questions into a document and convert it…

## What Kahoot's PowerPoint import does

Kahoot's help center (checked October 8, 2026) describes two options on the web platform:

- **Sync with OneDrive.** After you choose Create, Kahoot, Import slides, pick Sync with OneDrive, sign in to Microsoft and select a presentation from OneDrive or SharePoint. The slides stay linked, and you can use an Edit button to change the deck in PowerPoint.
- **Upload file.** You can upload a .pptx, .ppt, Keynote (.key) or PDF file. These slides are not synced.

The same page lists the limits:

- One presentation per kahoot
- A single kahoot cannot exceed 200 questions, and each slide counts as one
- Audio, video and animations do not sync, so add media in the creator
- Changes made in the Kahoot creator do not flow back into the original deck
- Availability depends on your plan, and importing slides is not available in the mobile apps

Kahoot also has AI tools that generate questions from synced Google Slides or PowerPoint, subject to plan and to the rule that students under 16 cannot use them.

## When imported slides are not enough

A deck with explanation slides gives students something to read, not something to answer. A typical teacher scenario: a 30 slide lesson on the water cycle. You want ten questions at the end. Importing the deck gives you 30 slides. You still have to write the questions, either by hand, with Kahoot's AI, or by lifting them from a quiz you already have.

Kahoot also supports Google Slides: choose Import from Google Slides in the creator to sync a deck from Google Drive. The same 200 slide ceiling and the ban on animations apply to the Kahoot side of the sync, so a Slides deck behaves much like a PowerPoint deck.

## Turn slide content into quiz questions

1. In PowerPoint choose File, Save As (or Export), and save the deck as a PDF, or copy the text into a Word document.
2. Make sure the questions and answer options you want are in that file. If you want new questions generated from the slides, generate them first and review them.
3. Upload the PDF or Word file to Formswrite. It reads PDFs (scanned ones through OCR), Word files, Google Docs, Excel and Google Sheets and detects each question and correct answer.
4. Review the result, then export for Kahoot and import it in the creator.
5. Add the images from your deck as media in the creator.

Exporting to Kahoot is a paid feature, and the free plan only exports Formswrite Forms.

## Which to use

| You have | Use |
| --- | --- |
| A lesson deck you want to present inside Kahoot | Slide import or OneDrive sync |
| A deck and want AI to write questions | Kahoot's AI on the imported slides |
| A quiz on the last slides, or a separate test file | Convert that file, keep your wording |
| A deck with quiz slides to reuse in other tools | Export to PDF, then convert |

## Tips for a deck that converts well

- Put each question and its options on one slide, or one page of the PDF.
- Mark the correct answer clearly, for example with an answer key slide at the end.
- Avoid questions that depend on a picture.
