# ChatGPT Quiz to Google Forms: Paste, Convert, Grade

In short

ChatGPT can write a quiz in seconds, but it cannot send that quiz into Google Forms for you. The quickest route is to ask the chatbot for a clean, numbered format, copy the text, and paste it into a tool that builds the form from it.

## Step 1: ask for a format a converter can read

Chatbots default to bold headings, bullet points and long explanations, all of which get in the way. Ask for a plain structure:

> Write 10 multiple choice questions about the water cycle for grade 6. Number them 1 to 10. Give four options labelled a) to d). Put an asterisk after the correct option. No explanations, no bold text, no introduction.

That gives you numbered questions, lettered options and an answer marker, which is exactly what a converter looks for. For a mixed quiz, say how you want other types written: add "(true or false)" after statements, or ask for short-answer questions with no options.

## Step 2: check the content before anything else

Do this before converting, not after. A chatbot can state a wrong answer with total confidence, and can also write two options that are both defensible. Read every question, confirm the starred answer against your textbook or notes, and delete or rewrite anything ambiguous. Converting a wrong key into a self-grading form means students get marked wrong for right answers.

## Step 3: convert it

You have two routes:

1. **Paste the list.** The [question importer](/tools/import-questions-to-google-form) accepts a pasted numbered list as well as files. It detects the answer options and asterisked answers, assigns a question type to each question, and turns on quiz mode when it finds an answer key.
2. **Put it in a Google Doc.** Paste the text into a Doc, then use the [Google Docs to Google Form converter](/convert/google-docs-to-google-form) with the link. Marked correct answers become the quiz key.

If you do not have the quiz yet and want one made for you, the [AI quiz generator](/tools/quiz-generator) writes questions from a topic, a PDF, a Word file or pasted text, and exports straight to the form, with no copy and paste step.

## A worked example

Ask for the quiz in the format above and you might get back text like this:

text`1. Which gas do plants absorb during photosynthesis? a) Oxygen b) Carbon dioxide* c) Nitrogen d) Helium 2. Photosynthesis happens in the chloroplasts. (True or False) True* False`

Paste that into the importer and you should see two questions, four options on the first with the second set as the key, and a two-option question for the second. If the key is wrong in the preview, fix it there, not in the chat, because editing the preview is faster than asking the chatbot again.

## Step 4: set points and test

Open the converted form. Set the point value on each question, confirm quiz mode is on, and take the quiz yourself as a student. Check that checkbox questions accept more than one correct answer, and that short-answer questions list the accepted spellings. The guide to [making an answer key in Google Forms](/blog/how-to-make-an-answer-key-in-google-forms) covers those settings.

## Tips for longer quizzes

Ask for the quiz in batches of ten to fifteen questions. Long outputs drift in format, and a batch is easier to proofread. Keep the same prompt for each batch so the layout stays identical, then paste the batches into one document before converting. If you want a spread of difficulty, say so in the prompt, for example "five recall questions and five application questions", and read the second group with extra care, since application questions are where ambiguous options appear most often.

## Which route to choose

| Situation | Best route |
| --- | --- |
| One quick quiz, answers in your head | Paste into the importer |
| You want to edit text collaboratively first | Doc, then Docs converter |
| You want the questions generated from your own material | AI quiz generator |
| Many quizzes from one chat | Ask for one numbered quiz at a time |

## Free and paid

The free plan allows 5 Formswrite Forms per month, and the Formswrite form is the only free export. Getting the result into Google Forms is a paid feature. For background on what chatbots can and cannot do with forms, see [can ChatGPT create Google Forms](/blog/can-chatgpt-create-google-forms).

## FAQ

Can ChatGPT create a Google Form directly?

Not by itself in a normal chat. It can write the questions, and then you need a tool or a script to build the form. Pasting a numbered list into a converter is the simplest option.

How do I mark the correct answers so they carry over?

Ask ChatGPT to put an asterisk after the correct option, or an "Answer:" line under each question. Use one pattern for the whole quiz and check the key after converting.

Are the answers ChatGPT writes reliable?

Treat them as a draft. Verify every answer against a trusted source before you give the quiz to students, and reword any question where two options could be right.

Does pasted text keep my formatting?

Plain numbered text works best. Bold, tables and long explanations add noise, so ask for a plain format in the prompt.

Can I get a mix of question types?

Yes. Ask for multiple choice, true or false and short-answer questions in clear groups, and the converter assigns the question type from the layout of each one.
